2.11.1 The “Create chamfer - For part edge” in Tekla Structures
This tool creates a chamfer along the line specified by two points.

Create a beam of 500 mm length.

Let’s create a chamfer along the line by using the following algorithm:
Make sure all operations are canceled or press the Esc key.
Enable the “Create chamfer- For part edge” tool.
Select the initial object for which a chamfer should be created.
Indicate the starting point of the chamfer.
Indicate the endpoint of the chamfer.
To disable the “Create chamfer- For part edge” tool, press
the Esc key.

Chamfers are displayed as solid objects though it is subtended that there
is no beam body at their place. Select the chamfer you have created and
by a double click on it go to its "Properties" menu.
Into the “Name'' field you can write any substantial
information about the edge, such as the equipment type to cut the edge,
so far as it can be reflected in the drawings and statements.

Let’s edit the values of X and Y parameters to bigger ones.

When configuring the dimensions of a chamfer, keep in mind that these
are essential for preparing a part for welding. Chamfer dimensions and
their shape depend on the weldable parts thickness and the weld-seam type
to be applied. Each country has its regulations for creating chamfers,
thus consult relevant sources for regulatory guidelines with your country,
and never set up these values in a random way.
In the current case study, create a chamfer of 45 degrees angle with the
root face dimensions equal to 2 mm (marked by c in the picture above).
In this regard, open the "Beam Properties" window and find
out the I-beam flange thickness.
Tekla Structures v21.1
Tekla Structures v2021
Refer to the below picture and pay attention to the parameter framed with
red. The flange thickness value may vary, depending on the profile type
selected.
Tekla Structures v21.1
Tekla Structures v2021
From the above picture, you can see that the flange thickness value is
8 mm, thus 2 mm should be set aside for the root face, resulting in that
the chamfer dimensions should be as follows: 8 - 2=6 mm. Write in
this value into the respective field of the “Edge Chamfer Properties”
window.

Create one more chamfer along the I-beam side in the counter direction

The new chamfer is of the full I-beam side length.

If a chamfer is to be of a definite length, it is required to configure
the “Chamfer ends” values to “Straight”, as it
is shown below:

In practice, this chamfer type is of immense complexity thus partially
chamfer edge preparations are mostly avoided. However, it may
be required and chamfers are created by a specific tool with an entry angle
different from 90 degrees.
Switch the end type values, thus the distance fields will get activated.
These are increasing chamfers and allow the tool to perform an entry at
a more shallow angle.

Select the chamfers and in the right-click menu press on “Hide”,
to temporarily hold them back from the view ( to remove/to hide, but not
to delete).
